Eghads, I'm getting older!

Hi fellow puppy lovers! I've been taking lots of great walks now that the weather is getting better. I've gained weight. I think I heard I now weigh five pounds. My legs are getting stronger and I can really jump on and off the furniture. (But, each time I make a jump, I can see Pat and Dave cringe!) I kinda gave up on chewing on the furniture and I don't mind taking care of my business outside. Although, I still get a chuckle when I wake Dave up at three or four in the morning. He's funny, he watches to see if I head back to my bed or not. I tease him and go back to bed. The best part of this is that he doesn't get angry, he just comes over, pats me on the head and covers me up. Gee, I must admit that's really great for getting back to sleep.... for me!

We've been checking out the alligator in the pond behind the house. I think Dave showed you my picture near the gator. I just wish Dave would let me go, I'd show that critter a thing or two. I guess it's a good thing that Dave doesn't let me near that gator because I really don't want to make any enemies in the neighborhood.

The other day I was "surfing" through Dave's photo files and I just happened to find a couple of photos of me and YIKES, what's happening to me. The photo below was taken in Becky's yard in PA back in September. I was playing with my Mom and nearly caught a rabbit. I was four months old.

I needed to sit down when I saw the photo below. It was taken in February of this year. I am ten months old and for a second I wondered, who is looking back at me.

Hmmmm, that's strange, it looks like my ears stayed the same size!

Actually, I guess I can see why everyone I meet wants to pick me up!

Finally, I get to use the computer!

Boy, I've had a lousy few days a while back. I'm sure Dave told you something about the problem I had about my teeth. Well, what do you expect when people don't understand dog speak .

It all started with my baby teeth pushing on my adult teeth. I started drooling a lot a couple of days before they helped me. Although, the visit to the Vet was a bit more than I expected. First off, this guy put his fingers in my mouth and a helper put this thermometer thing in my rear. What next! Then they kept me there and gave me something and I went to sleep. When I woke up I felt really yucky and for the rest of the day I didn't feel like doing anything. The next day was much better and I even stopped all the drooling. Actually, I felt pretty good. We played, walked and I ate a lot. I guess we Yorkies have lots of problems with our teeth. I hope I don't have to visit that tooth guy again. You people are really lucky that you don't have to see a tooth guy!

I'm getting out more but this cold weather is strange. Pat and Dave have a really hard time getting my jacket on. Gee, they must think I'm a wimp or something. It eventually did warm up and they didn't have to stress about my jacket.

Oh boy, there are sooooo many new smells where I live. On top of that, there are so many wild things I can chase; birds around the pond, tiny lizards, toads and I even got to sniff a tiny turtle. One night I saw something Dave called an armadillo. I also saw a possum. We have possums where I used to live in PA.

I can find the smallest things to sniff!

See, I told you my teeth were better. Dave let me play with this bottle. I wasn't strong enough to bite through it but is was fun. I don't get it, they give me all these great things to chew on and when they go out and leave me alone, they take them away.

One night, Dave found this really big ball.
I cannot get my jaw open enough to bite it but my teeth are tiny enough that I can rip the fur off and bite the fur. That was really cool! I like walking with it. I think Pat and Dave do as well because they laugh when I walk and carry that ball!

Cool huh!

Dave's been letting me walk on the grass just above the sand at the edge of the ponds here. I really want to get into the water. That's all new to me.
I think there is a reason why they don't let me off my leash or go too close to the water down here.
The other day we walked around the edge of the pond and Dave showed me this thing...

Then, he took me home, left me in the lanai so he could go back and get this picture of it....
WOW! That is really big. And it wasn't afraid of Dave because it didn't move when he got real close to it.
For some reason those things like the water...

Dave must have thought I was really cute because, while walking back to the house, he took a picture of me in the window... can you find me?

Dave and Pat laughed when they saw me sitting on the window sill. They thought I was too big to get the best seat in the house to look out the window!

OK I've had my fun, time for a nap!

Eghads! I'm going gray!

Hi fellow doggie lovers! I've had a few bad days over the past several weeks and I'm tired of getting scolded. To top it off, I'm going gray over it! Yikes, I'm only eight months old and I'm going gray!
... but that's the least of my problems. You may remember that I've become fond of Dave and Pat's furniture, well, I can't help myself. I play with my toys but at some point I wrestle around with them and suddenly I find myself next to this soft corner of a piece of furniture that I just can't resist sinking my tiny, shinny teeth into!

Before you get mad at me, Pat is sanding down my handy work in preparation to cover my art work. As you can see I've repeated my self on one of them.

Well, maybe Pat got so angry with me that she went away for what seemed like a really long time. Dave was fun to be with for the most part. There were times that he tried to do this wood thing in the garage and I don't know why he didn't give me any of that nice soft wood he was playing with. But
even he got made at me when I tried to get his attention. After a few barks he had had enough and gave up on what he was doing.

He did take me out a lot! We had some really great walks. They were long and I got to smell that there are lots of other dogs around. There are so many things to see around my house. We have two giant (at least to me) lakes near our house but Dave doesn't let me get too near to them. He keeps talking about a gator or something like that.

I think Dave gave me more treats than Pat usually does. He also played with me a lot....
but I still missed Pat.

Oh, I was talking about going gray! I don't know what's going on with my hair. I was dark brown, then the hair on my head got really light and now my back is turning gray?????
...see what I mean!

Oh, hold on just a minute....squirrel

Darn, he got away!

Where was I, Oh yeah, I heard Dave talking to Pat about how gray I was getting and they talked about how Yorkies get their adult hair around eight to ten months of age.

Gee whiz, I thought you get gray hair when you get old!

Anyway, Dave and I spent the afternoon in the warm sun in front of the garage. I had a ball watching all the things going by and I got to yell at few other dogs that walked by with their people.

Then, to top it off Pat came home!

Ahhhhhh, life is good!

I've been thinking!

I've been living with Dave and Pat since September and I can't begin to tell you about all the things I've experienced. First off, there sure are lots of things a little doggie needs to learn. And it seems like Dave and Pat like to repeat themselves a lot. Gee, they must think I'm hard of hearing or something. Take the word "come" for example. I know what that means but every time I go under the couch they have to say it soooo many times to get me out from under the couch. What else is funny is that Pat says it louder and softer then when she stops saying it, I know I've teased her enough so I crawl out with my sympathetic look on. Dave on the other hand gets louder. He likes to pat on the floor. I don't know what that's all about. I finally give in but its fun seeing them go through their exercises.

I really enjoy going outside but I just don't seem to understand is that they take me out about every two hours. I mean, I really like going out but Pat likes short walks and Dave mostly takes me for longer walks. I like being outside because I get to see all these fun things. For example, check out these two big birds. Man, I'd like to chase them but Dave doesn't let me get too close to them. I just bark at them and they get the message they better not mess with me.

But the thing that really confuses me is this going potty outside! I just don't get it. I go potty inside and they go nuts on me. Pat even puts my nose close to my mess. Heck, what's with that, I know what my mess smells like! Besides, what's with this double standard, they correct me about going potty in the house when they go potty in the house all the time!
I guess I've got to be like all the other pet dogs in the neighborhood and use the grass of all the yards.

My domain seems to be the house and any body's lap I can sit on. I can jump on three chairs and go any where I want in the house... well almost everywhere. They like closing doors so I have to stay in the part of the house they are in.
There is one thing both Dave and Pat have been really getting on me about and I can't help myself. Every now and then while playing I end up next to a corner of their furniture. I don't know what it is but it feels great on my teeth. Hey, what's so bad about a little chew on the corner of their wood. It's soft, I don't want to eat it, it's just something I've got to do! I think this is like the "potty thing in the house" I've just got to try to stop upsetting them so much. I really should stop, their scolding me is cutting into my lap time!

Does this face look like the face of a trouble maker?

I'll just have to be content with my toys. Hey, they let me leave them any place I want.

I will say, there is one thing I've just got to have. It's this chewy thing they give me in the morning and evening. I can't help myself. I've got to have it. I even have to go over by the sink (that's where they keep the container for these things) and bark at the counter! I swear, sometimes I think they like to make me wait for them to get me this snack.

At first, Dave used to hold the chewy for me when it got too small.

Now that I'm much bigger I can hold it myself.
That's kinda how I spend my days. Although, I think I like curling up on Pat or Dave's lap more than anything.

I'm getting used to their house. After all, its mine too. I'm getting to know the routine when they're about to leave me alone. First, they begin talking real nice to me as they head toward the front door. I know I'm going to be a loner when the doggie gate is snapped between the walls. Then, Pat drops a couple treats on the floor near my water. (They don't think I can tell a deception! But I can't help myself when I see the treats on the floor. They get away every time!)

I even line up my toys so everything is nice and neat when they come home.

I don't mind being alone. After all, I'm in my own home. I'm secure and I can always go into my security crate and nap but I'm still just a puppy what do you expect.

Don't worry about me though, because when provoked I become

Exploring, a haircut and a party!

I think I'm getting a handle on what's going on in this house with Dave and Pat. As hard as I try I have to live by their schedule. I gave up waking Dave up at two or three in the morning. I was beginning to feel bad for him. They have me on a structured schedule for walks and feeding times. Its not all that bad. I'm pretty active, Dave plays with me lots of times during the day and I get to snuggle with Pat a lot! And I really like that.

The best part of my day is what happens just after I get Dave up. He takes me out for my walk and then when we go back in the house, I make a bee-line to Pat's side of the bed. I bark and jump at the bed until she gets up. Then she picks me up and takes me to her chair so I can snuggle on her thick, soft house coat. I'm nice and warm and really comfy. Lately, Pat's been playing tricks on me by getting on the couch and covering up. But I can easily hunt her down. And that's my mornings!

During my walks there's so much to explore! Everything is new to me.

Dave almost got me up close to see this gator in the pond behind our house. He is really cool... and fast. This guy burst into the water when we got just a little closer. Dave doesn't let me walk on the sand part of the water's edge. Judging from the splash of jumping into the water this guy made,  I really don't want to be any closer to the water!
(We didn't get this close to the gator. Dave did something on the computer to make you think he is really brave!)
Today, I heard Dave tell the story about the swan in the front of the picture. He said that he, Bill and Little Buzz watched this swan for a week before they learned is was plastic!

Ahhhhh, me time! And Dave thought I was never going to get on this big couch! Pat let's me, so there.

Dave just put this in because I was afraid to jump over all the dirt and stuff. (Darlene thinks Dave did this for her!)

What are those giant birds doing? They better not get near this screen.

I am the protector! The "Watch Dog!" After all I surely can stare something down! And if that doesn't work, I'll bark their ear drums off!

Man, can't they make anything in this house for me to see out into the yard without having to do my "prairie dog" stance?

Darn, false alarm. I thought I'd have to go into action.

How do you like my new hair cut?

I'm getting all kinds of pats and compliments.

I think this is my best picture. I had to stand long enough for Dave to take it!
Someone said, "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful!"

Pat was really funny. She put me into this zipper bag and carries me around the house. They must have been amused because they both had a good laugh!

I think they were having fun at my expense. I found out why they spent so much time with me this morning. They had a party in the afternoon and I wasn't invited! Actually, I was fenced in the bedroom with all my toys. Boy, I had a lot to say about that. But after a dozen barks or more they didn't come for me so I took advantage of the soft carpet and stretched out. They made a lot of noise so at least I knew they were home. Darn, I wanted to be part of the party!

About half way into the party Pat came and got me and boy I was the talk of the party. Almost everyone came over to me to say hi. I was super excited! I was the center of attraction! Pat wouldn't let me down on the floor. There was so many people even I was afraid I'd get stepped on. I was happy to settle in on Pat's lap.... or Darlene's..... or Rose's!

It's been a busy and exciting day. I felt really special today and got to meet a lot of good people who know how to pat me. Dave and I had some play time while Pat took Darlene home and now that Pat's home, I know my job is over for the night.

As Darlene and Pat say, "night, night!"
